First, my apology for being tardy with reports; home destruction and construction has limited my outdoor activities to close-to-nothing the past month.
BUT! I did get out onto Arbutus Lake (Arbutus Five, to be exact), south of Traverse City, for a little panfish fishing, with my brother, Don Hice, and a friend, Russ Maddin, and his two daughters.
We caught all sorts of fish, from ‘gills and sunfish (and the lake’s natural cross between he two), and crappie and largemouth bass. No huge fish, but a few keepers in the mix. The ice was about five inches thick.
Lake Skegamog’s been giving up a few perch, along with Little Glen Lake. You’ll have to sort fish out, but you can muster up a few keepers.
And a reminder: The Ultimate Fishing Show – Detroit will be going on this coming week, January 8 through 11, at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan. I’ll be there giving seminars, and, more importantly, introducing special guest on Lake Ultimate, the 110,000-gallon lake where seminars will be given by some of fishing’s top names, such as Kevin VanDam and Babe Winkleman.
Also, there’s still room to join in on the Ice Fishing School/Vacation this coming February 8 through 11, put on by walleye pros Mark Martin, Ross Grothe, Mark Brumbaugh, and Mike Gofron, on the frozen waters of Saginaw Bay. Contact Linwood Beach Marina (989-697-4415, linwoodbeachmarina.com) for more information.
Well… Hope to see y’all at the Ultimate Fishing Show – Detroit! Please stop by and say hi.
